Entry #8 - Fright & Freedom

After we cut the rope with the pocket knife that Maliki happened to sneak in he was free at last. Maliki wasted no time gathering material he would need for our makeshift raft. He started ripping boards off of the wall and cutting the crates open while the passengers looked on in amazement.

“How can we help?” I asked.

“You can start by grabbing me those barrels over there.”

When I went to retrieve the barrels, I realized I had forgotten all about Rachel. When I woke up, she was sitting right in between two barrels. Where could she be? I didn’t know whether to stop what I was doing and go look for her or continue building the raft. Slime walked over to me and shook me.

“We have to get a move on dude!” He said quickly.

I decided if I had any chance of saving her it was by helping to build this barrel raft. After Malki had built the outer frame and tied it down with rope, we began to place the barrels in the corner. The raft wasn’t exactly proportional but that didn’t really matter. With what little we had to work with, I thought we were doing a good job. We then stuck the rest of the board to the bottom of the barrel to make sure that barrels would not move underneath the structure. Last but not least, we added the cross supports and the deck top.

We managed to build a raft that could hold four people. The last step of our survival project was to find a paddle and time was running out. Luckily, Slime spotted two brooms in the back corner and figured they would suffice. After the raft was built, we quickly realized that all of the passengers would be fighting us to get a seat. How were we going to fend off all of these frightened adrenaline filled passengers?

“What about the other passengers?” I asked Slime and Maliki.

“What about them?” Maliki said.

“They are going to gang up on us and try and steal our raft.”

“What they should be doing is building their own.”

“Not everyone knows how to build a raft, plus people are panicking. It’s kind of hard to think straight when you are about to die.”

“The only thing we can do is fight back.” Slime said.

“Have you seen Rachel?”

“Rachel? Who is Rachel?”

“The girl who I was sitting beside when I woke up in here.”

“Oh... yeah I don’t know. I haven’t seen her.”

“We have to find her. That fourth seat is for her.”

“For all we know Louis probably has her.”
